My luck here in new york is just great.
The apartment i live in is in a really nice neighborhood. I found this really nice, quiet, cozy apt to live in the upper west side. It's close to the subway entrance, etc... Basically, it's a really nice place to live. But as always, there's a catch. The building i live in is over 100 years old.
Since i've been here, i've had problems with intermittent hot water. Basically, the boiler would poop out and end up with no hot water. No biggie cuz it was the summertime and it was hot. But then the boiler quit in the middle of november last year when it started getting cold. Yay. So they replaced the boiler, and had to turn off the water for 2-3 days. Not fun. But then the boiler exploded and so, in the middle of december, during finals season, the boiler goes out and viola... no hot water. Yay. That was interesting.
So i'm sure you all know how cold new york is right now. It's cold. The news people do it no justice. They say it's "bitterly cold" outside blah blah blah. Nope. it's not bitterly cold. It's FREAKIN cold. so coming here from sunny california was not fun. But then to make it THAT much better, the water pipe in the basement (where i live) decided to give out and go kaput. All this cold weather finally make the pipe quit and explode. So my room all of a sudden had about 2 inches of standing water everywhere. My room was now a swimming pool. Yippee.
Sooooo... I guess now the superintendant is going to clean out the water with a wet/dry vaccumm and what not. Luckily, i don't have too much on the floor, but it's seriously the biggest pain in the butt. The best part is, i've only been back for about a week.
This is gonna be an interesting semester...
