Home for Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!!

It's nice to be home again. After turning a nice east coast pale, it's great to be home and see some sun again. It's been almost a week so far, and i can't believe that time has flown by so fast. I've done so much, but it really doesn't feel like all that much time has passed.

I just had an interview with Maxim this past monday. For those of you how don't know what a technical interview is like, it's pretty much the worst thing you can go through. It's about 7-8 hrs straight of technical questions. And not easy ones at that. They draw all these weird diagrams and equations, and ask you to either
  • a.) solve them
  • b.) explain them
  • c.) derive them
  • d.) do all three.
And most of these guys are way smarter than you. Looking at all their business cards, all the names were followed by either Ph.D or Sc.D (MIT). Sick. Plus these guys have been doing whatever for 5-10+ years. Great. But all in all, it was an enlightening experience. Reason for saying? No stress. There's a hiring freeze. Nothing to lose. I went ahead for the experience. I've only done a few all day interviews. They're not fun. This one wasn't so bad, since i was able to have lunch with an old coworker. But it sure wasn't an experience i'd like to keep doing over and over. And just to top it all off, I had to pee in a cup. Woohoo.

And what's a better way to end a stressful day than to see snow? I'm not sure. I took off for tahoe as soon as i finished dinner. Man, it was great to finally hit the slopes and get some good riding in. Granted, snow was kind of thin and a little bit icy, but for pre-thxgiving riding? It was great. Weather was amazing and not a cloud in the sky. Not a lot of people at the resort, but plenty of kids playing hookey for sure (me included). But the craziest thing i saw all day was when i was in the terrain parks. Most people were just going over the jumps without too much flair, others were just content just catching some air. But this one kid, he couldn't have been older than 12-13. He goes down the hill towards the jump doing the kimchee-squat. But when he hits the jump, whoooop! back-side flip. That little twerp slapped just about everyone waiting in the face with that little stunt. How do you follow that up? 360 twist with a grab? Nope. You can't. We all sat there going "whoooooaaaaaaaaaaahh" or "daaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmnnnnn". Upstaged by a little 12 year old. Nothing left to do except go down the hill holding your head in shame.

Back-side flip. Still can't believe it.
